This bill aims to empower patients and entrepreneurs by increasing transparency on healthcare costs. It requires the Massachusetts Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) to annually release a range of data, including hospital payment and utilization information for the 100 most common inpatient stays, claims data on the 10 most expensive inpatient and outpatient procedures, physician and other provider utilization and payment data, and information on the 100 most commonly prescribed drugs and the 10 most expensive drugs. The data must be made available to the public in a raw but usable form, though CHIA is not required to build a consumer tool to sort the data. CHIA may also incorporate the released data into its existing consumer health information website.
