This bill establishes a diabetes action plan within the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The plan will identify goals and benchmarks to reduce the prevalence and impact of diabetes in the Commonwealth, and develop plans to reduce diabetes incidence, improve diabetes care, and control complications. The department must consult with other state agencies and submit a biennial report on the financial impact of diabetes, the number of affected persons, the effects of implemented programs, the level of coordination between state agencies, progress towards plan goals and benchmarks, and any additional actions or funding needs for diabetes prevention, control, and treatment.
