This bill aims to enhance courthouse security by introducing several key provisions. Firstly, it prohibits individuals, except for law enforcement officers performing their official duties, from carrying firearms, loaded or unloaded, in a courthouse without written authorization from the trial court administrator and chief justice. Violators could face a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment of up to one year. Additionally, the bill expands the police powers of court officers and those authorized to act as court officers, allowing them to perform police duties and exercise police powers in or around the court premises, including court parking lots, when designated by the appropriate chief justices. This includes when attending court proceedings at other locations, escorting jurors or judicial officers, or participating in the care, custody, or transport of detainees.
