This bill aims to enhance courthouse security by prohibiting the carrying of firearms, both loaded and unloaded, in courthouses by individuals who are not law enforcement officers performing their official duties. The bill imposes a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment of up to one year, or both, for such unauthorized carrying of firearms in courthouses. Additionally, the bill provides for a more severe penalty of up to five years in state prison or up to two and a half years in a jail or house of correction, or a fine of up to $5,000, or both, for carrying a firearm in a courthouse with the intent to use it during the commission of a crime.
