This bill aims to increase the safety of individuals with disabilities who rely on life-support equipment. It amends existing law to require hospitals to include information about any pharmaceutical, rehabilitative, or life-supporting technology, machinery, or equipment required to maintain the patient's medical stability, along with instructions for maintenance and upkeep, in the patient's discharge plan. Additionally, before releasing a patient with intellectual or developmental disabilities from a hospital, the hospital must communicate the discharge plan to a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse at the patient's residence or residential facility, who must review the plan and acknowledge their understanding of the requirements to maintain the patient's life-supporting technology. The bill also directs the Department of Public Health to develop guidelines and regulations, conduct public awareness campaigns, and provide guidance and information to assist in the implementation of and compliance with these new provisions.
