This bill aims to increase the safety of individuals with disabilities who rely on life-support equipment. It amends an existing law to require hospitals to include more detailed information in discharge plans, such as descriptions of any pharmaceutical, rehabilitative, or life-supporting technology, machinery, or equipment required to maintain the patient's medical stability, as well as instructions for the maintenance and upkeep of such technology. Additionally, the bill requires hospitals to communicate the discharge plan and provisions for aftercare services to a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse employed at the patient's residence or residential facility, who must review the plan and acknowledge their understanding. The Department of Public Health is also required to develop guidelines and regulations, conduct public awareness campaigns, and provide guidance and informational materials to assist in the implementation and compliance with this Act.
