This bill amends Massachusetts law to prohibit defendants charged or convicted of certain violent offenses, such as assault, rape, or strangulation, from obtaining visitation with a child resulting from the pregnancy related to the crime or a child who is a victim or witness to the crime. The visitation ban can be waived by the adult victim or child of suitable age, and the probate court must stay any motions filed by the defendant related to parental rights until the ban is lifted. The ban terminates after the completion of the defendant's sentence or one year, whichever is shorter, and the defendant must complete a psychological evaluation, domestic violence education program, parenting program, and any other necessary treatment before being allowed visitation.
