This bill amends the retirement options for certain educational personnel in Massachusetts. Specifically, it allows members of other retirement systems who transfer to the teachers' retirement system or the State-Boston retirement system as teachers to elect to participate in the alternative superannuation retirement benefit program within 180 days of establishing membership. It also expands the definition of "teacher" for the purposes of this program to include school nurses, social workers, early childhood teachers, speech/occupational/physical therapists, and school business administrators. The bill also provides a one-time opportunity for eligible members who were previously eligible but did not elect to participate in the program to do so within 180 days of the bill's effective date, subject to making additional retirement contributions.
