This bill requires health insurance plans in Massachusetts, including those offered by the Group Insurance Commission, Medicaid, and private insurers, to provide coverage for pasteurized donor human milk and donor human milk-derived products for infants under 6 months old. Coverage is contingent on a licensed medical practitioner's written order for infants who are medically or physically unable to receive maternal breast milk or whose mothers are unable to produce sufficient quantities or quality of breast milk. Reimbursement for donor human milk in inpatient settings must be provided separately from the existing hospital payment. The provisions of this bill apply to all relevant health insurance policies, contracts, and certificates issued or renewed on or after September 1, 2023.
