This Resolution celebrates the flag of Ireland as a symbol of peace and the connection between the U.S. and Ireland, as well as St. Patrick's Day and the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. The Good Friday Agreement, a significant peace accord ratified on April 10, 1998, is recognized for establishing a framework for lasting peace in Northern Ireland, acknowledging the right of different political traditions and providing a political path for Ireland's future, whether remaining part of the UK or pursuing Irish Unity. The Resolution highlights the bipartisan support the agreement has received from U.S. legislators and presidents, and acknowledges the ongoing efforts of the British and Irish governments in its implementation, emphasizing its role as the foundation of the peace process. It also notes the 175th anniversary of the first flying of the Irish flag by Thomas F. Meagher, who represented the ties between Ireland and the U.S. Finally, the Resolution directs that copies be sent to Oklahoma's Congressional delegation to encourage their awareness of the bipartisan congressional resolutions concerning Ireland, the Good Friday Agreement, and the Irish Peace Process.
