This bill amends the agriculture and markets law in New York to prohibit the ear clipping and tail docking of dogs unless deemed medically necessary by a licensed veterinarian to protect the life or health of the dog. The bill imposes a misdemeanor penalty with a fine of up to $500 for any person who cuts or alters a dog's tail for reasons other than medical necessity. However, the provisions of the bill do not apply to dogs whose tails have already been docked prior to August 1, 2024.
