This bill aims to expand wheelchair protection for consumers with disabilities. It defines an "authorized wheelchair supplier" as a seller of complex rehabilitation technology equipment, and a "complex rehabilitation technology wheelchair" as a specialized, medically necessary, and individually configured manual or power wheelchair. The bill prohibits prior authorization for the repair of complex rehabilitation technology wheelchairs, requires authorized wheelchair suppliers to repair these wheelchairs in a timely manner within Massachusetts, and directs the Department of Public Health to establish standards for the timeliness and quality of these repairs. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of MassHealth and the Division of Insurance to establish a fee schedule to reimburse authorized wheelchair suppliers for the evaluation and diagnosis of complex rehabilitation technology wheelchair repairs.
