This bill aims to strengthen suicide prevention efforts in schools. It proposes several changes to existing law: 1) reducing the required training for school personnel on suicide prevention from 3 years to 1 year; 2) reducing the required refresher course from 6 months to 60 days; and 3) requiring the Department of Education, subject to appropriation, to adopt rules requiring all public school districts and charter schools to develop partnerships with community organizations and agencies to refer students to health, mental health, substance use, and social support services.
