This bill amends Chapter 41 of the Massachusetts General Laws to establish that municipalities are considered employers for the purposes of the state's minimum wage law under Chapter 151. However, municipalities can opt out of this requirement if they accept an alternative provision that allows the municipality's legislative body, with the approval of the chief executive officer (in municipalities with a chief executive), to set a minimum wage for municipal employees. This provides municipalities with some flexibility in determining minimum wage requirements for their employees.
