This bill repeals Section 7C of Chapter 71 of the General Laws, and adds three new sections to Chapter 71. The first new section requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to maintain a registry of all vendors providing school transportation services. The second and third new sections give parents and guardians the option to decline school transportation for their students on an annual basis, with the school district or regional school district not being obligated to provide transportation for those students in that academic year. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, in consultation with the Department of Transportation, to conduct a study on student transportation collaboratives and consortiums, and file a report with the relevant committees by July 1, 2024.
