This bill amends Chapter 258E of the General Laws to add new sections related to firearm safety and harassment prevention orders. The key provisions are: 1. Upon issuing a temporary or emergency harassment prevention order, the court must order the immediate suspension and surrender of the defendant's license to carry firearms and firearms identification card, as well as all firearms, rifles, shotguns, machine guns, and ammunition the defendant owns or possesses. Law enforcement officials must take immediate possession of these items. Violating this order is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment of up to 2.5 years. 2. Upon continuation or modification of a harassment prevention order, the court can also order the suspension and surrender of the defendant's license and firearms if it determines that their return would likely lead to harassment of the plaintiff. This suspension and surrender order remains in effect as long as the restraining order is in effect. 3. The court must transmit a report containing the defendant's information and the alleged conduct to the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services, which will then report it to the Attorney General of the United States for inclusion in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System upon the expiration, cancellation, or revocation of the order.
