This bill aims to clarify the charitable purposes of certain organizations, specifically related to tort liability. The bill amends the existing law to state that it shall not be a defense to a tort claim against a charity that the organization is or was a charity, as long as the tort was committed in the course of activities directly related to the charity's purposes and the charity derives more than 50% of its income from charitable donations. However, if the charity has been established primarily for religious purposes, the liability in such a tort claim shall not exceed $20,000, excluding interest and costs.
