AI Summary
This bill, the Responsible Firefighting Foam Management Act, prohibits the use of firefighting foams containing per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals for firefighting training or testing purposes in North Carolina. PFAS chemicals are associated with various health issues, including cancer, thyroid problems, and developmental problems in children. The bill requires the use of non-fluorinated training foams and establishes requirements for the containment, treatment, and disposal of PFAS-containing foams used for testing purposes. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is authorized to adopt rules to implement the provisions of the bill, which will become effective on December 1, 2023.
