This bill amends existing laws to provide compensation to certain employees who receive bodily injuries resulting from acts of violence while performing their duties. Specifically, it extends benefits to employees of state correctional facilities who are injured due to acts of violence either during their normal duties or while performing assigned duties outside the facility. Additionally, it provides benefits to court officers who are injured from acts of violence in the courtroom or other designated areas of the courthouse. The bill establishes a presumption of eligibility for correctional employees to receive workers' compensation benefits under Chapter 152 when they are injured by acts of violence.
