Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to providing notice of voting rights to persons released from local jails
AI Summary
This bill amends the Correction Law to require the chief administrative officer of a local correctional facility to provide notice of voting rights to all persons 18 years of age or older upon their discharge or release from the facility. The notice must include information on the importance and mechanics of voting, when the person is or may become eligible to vote, and offer a voter registration form. The bill also requires the chief administrative officer to maintain a written record if an individual declines the voter registration form.
