This bill appropriates $4,500,000 in fiscal year 2024 from the general fund to the Commissioner of Employment and Economic Development for a grant to the North Minneapolis community and its nonprofit partners. The funds will be used to acquire property, predesign, design, construct, renovate, furnish, and equip a year-round indoor public market. The market is intended to create a gathering place for North Minneapolis youth and families to connect with their history and culture, and engage in commerce together. This is a one-time appropriation and the funding is available until the project is completed or abandoned, subject to the requirements of Minnesota Statutes, section 16A.642.
