This bill requires public elementary schools in New York to schedule a minimum of 30 minutes per day, or two 15-minute periods, of unstructured physical play for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. This "recess" time must be separate from the scheduled lunch and physical education periods. The law will take effect 90 days after being signed into law and will apply to school years starting on or after July 1 of the following year.
