This bill amends the Agriculture and Markets Law to require perishable foods (such as eggs, baked goods, dairy products) and packaged foods to be clearly marked with a "safety date" indicating the last day for safe consumption and a "quality date" indicating the last recommended consumption or use date. The bill defines the relevant terms and authorizes the Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets, in consultation with the Commissioner of Health, to promulgate rules and regulations regarding the content and placement of these dates. The bill will take effect 180 days after becoming law.
