This bill amends the education law to allow certain applicants for licensure as a nurse or physician who are currently licensed and in good standing in another state or territory to be granted temporary authorization to practice in New York state for up to 180 days while their application for licensure is pending. Specifically, the bill provides a temporary authorization process for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses who were practicing in New York pursuant to the state disaster emergency declared in 2021, as well as for physicians who were practicing in New York during that time. The temporary authorization is subject to certain requirements, including filing an application for licensure, obtaining the endorsement of the employing healthcare facility, and paying a fee. Persons practicing under this temporary authorization will be subject to the disciplinary and regulatory authority of the Board of Regents as if they were licensed.
