Bill Summary

AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to temporarily authorizing certain applicants for licensure as a nurse or physician to practice; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon the expiration thereof

AI Summary

This bill allows certain applicants for licensure as a nurse or physician who are currently licensed and in good standing in another state or territory to be granted temporary authorization to practice in New York state for up to 180 days, or until they are notified that they do not meet the qualifications for licensure, whichever occurs first. The bill requires these applicants to file a license application, obtain an endorsement from their employer, and pay a fee before they can temporarily practice. It also subjects them to the jurisdiction and disciplinary authority of the Board of Regents as if they were licensed practitioners in New York.
