This bill amends the Family Court Act to allow the court to issue orders of protection in child abuse and neglect proceedings against individuals who were members of the child's household or legally responsible for the child's care, but who are not the child's parents. These orders can remain in effect for up to two years or, if the court finds "special circumstances" such as physical injury or a history of violations, up to five years. The orders can be extended, reviewed, modified, or vacated by the court upon motion by any party. The bill aims to provide additional protection for children in abuse and neglect cases beyond what can be achieved through orders against their parents alone.
