This bill amends the Family Court Act to allow the court to issue orders of protection in child abuse and neglect proceedings, even against individuals who are not the child's parent but were members of the child's household or legally responsible for the child's care. These orders of protection can remain in effect for up to two years, or up to five years if the court finds "special circumstances" such as physical injury or serious physical injury caused by the respondent, use of a dangerous instrument, a history of protection order violations, or other factors indicating an immediate and ongoing danger to the protected person or child. The orders can be extended, modified, or vacated upon motion by any party, and are subject to annual review by the court.
