This bill authorizes the widow of Peter Sistrom, who was last employed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and had over 28 years of public service credited in the New York State and Local Employees' Retirement System, to file a retirement option election on behalf of her deceased husband. Despite the fact that Peter Sistrom died on September 10, 2021, this bill deems him eligible for a service retirement benefit effective September 9, 2021. The widow can file the application and election form within one year of the bill's effective date, and any rights or benefits payable to her will be retroactive to September 9, 2021. The past service costs associated with implementing this bill will be borne by the MTA.
