This bill authorizes the widow of Peter Sistrom, who was employed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and had over 28 years of public service, to file a retirement option election on behalf of her deceased husband. Notwithstanding the typical requirements, the bill deems Sistrom eligible for a service retirement benefit as of September 9, 2021, the day before his death on September 10, 2021. The bill allows Sistrom's spouse to file the retirement application and elect a joint allowance full option, with the spouse as the beneficiary. Any amounts previously paid as an ordinary death benefit will be deducted from the pension payable under this legislation, which will have a one-time past service cost of approximately $1.01 million to be borne by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
