Bill Summary
To amend sections 3314.03 and 3326.11 and to enact section 3313.473 of the Revised Code to permit public schools to employ chaplains to provide support services.
AI Summary
This bill allows public schools, including community schools and STEM schools, to employ or accept as a volunteer a chaplain to provide support, services, and programs for students. The chaplain would not be required to apply for a state teaching license or certification. The bill also requires a criminal records check and registration with the state Department of Education for any chaplain employed or volunteering at a school. The chaplain services would be provided in addition to, but not in lieu of, school counselor services. Schools can establish their own requirements and procedures for implementing the chaplain provision.
