Bill Summary
AN ACT IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA To amend, on a temporary basis, the District of Columbia Workers’ Compensation Act of 1979 to provide that the payment or award of compensation under the workers’ compensation law of any other state shall not bar a claim for compensation under the District’s workers’ compensation law for the same injury or death; provided, that any such award under the District’s workers’ compensation law shall be reduced by the amount of compensation received or awarded under the workers’ compensation law of any other state.
AI Summary
This bill amends the District of Columbia Workers' Compensation Act of 1979 to allow employees or their dependents to claim compensation under the District's workers' compensation law, even if they have already received compensation under the workers' compensation law of another state for the same injury or death. However, the award under the District's law will be reduced by the amount of compensation received from the other state. This temporary amendment applies to all claims pending as of June 28, 2022, and all claims filed after that date, and will be in effect for 225 days after the bill's approval.
