This bill establishes eligibility requirements for persons seeking to qualify for nomination as candidates of a political party or as candidates with no party affiliation. It requires such persons to have been registered members of the political party or registered without any party affiliation for at least 365 days prior to the beginning of qualifying preceding the general election. The bill also allows political parties and other entities with standing to bring actions for declaratory and injunctive relief if they claim a person did not comply with the eligibility requirements, and prohibits a person from qualifying as a candidate or having their name appear on the ballot if a court determines they did not comply. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2024.
