This bill establishes eligibility requirements for persons seeking to qualify for nomination as a candidate of a political party or as a candidate with no party affiliation. It requires that a person seeking to qualify as a party candidate must have been a registered member of that party for at least 365 days prior to the beginning of qualifying for the general election. A person seeking to qualify as a candidate with no party affiliation must be registered without any party affiliation and may not have been a registered member of any political party for at least 365 days prior to the beginning of qualifying. The bill also allows political parties and other entities with standing to bring legal action if they claim a person did not comply with these requirements, and it prohibits a person from qualifying as a candidate or having their name on the ballot if a court determines they did not comply.
