This bill aims to promote the development of geothermal energy resources in Washington state. It directs the Geological Survey to compile and maintain a comprehensive database of publicly available subsurface geologic information, including temperature gradient logs, geothermal well records, and other relevant data. The bill also requires the Department of Natural Resources to update its geothermal resources lease rates to be competitive with other states in the Western U.S. Additionally, the bill establishes a competitive geothermal exploration cost-share grant program to incentivize deep exploratory drilling to identify locations suitable for geothermal energy development. Finally, the Department of Ecology is directed to engage in a collaborative process to identify opportunities and risks associated with geothermal resources development, including potential impacts on tribal rights, endangered species, and overburdened communities.
