Bill Summary

This Assembly resolution opposes the Biden administration's policies regarding the border crisis on the United States-Mexico border and strongly urges President Biden to reinstate all of the policies that had successfully secured our nation's southern border under the prior administration. Securing our borders is one of the federal government's most essential responsibilities in ensuring our national security and public safety as well as our health and financial well-being. The policies of the Trump Administration had successfully secured our nation's southern border with Mexico including, but not limited to: building the Wall; using Title 42 public health authority to immediately expel border crossers during the COVID-19 pandemic; instituting the Migrant Protection Protocol, also commonly known as the "remain in Mexico" policy for asylum-seekers; and entering the Safe Third-Country Agreements with Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. It is the responsibility of President Biden and Congress to protect the safety of the public by preserving the integrity of our borders and measures to control immigration as opposed to serving political agendas.

AI Summary

This resolution opposes President Biden's border policies and urges the reinstatement of border control measures implemented during the Trump administration. The resolution argues that securing national borders is a critical federal responsibility for protecting national security, public safety, and economic well-being. It highlights concerns about the current border situation, including over 100,000 monthly border apprehensions, potential illegal migration of undocumented individuals across the United States, and risks associated with unauthorized border crossings such as potential entry of criminals and terrorists. The resolution specifically calls for reinstating previous border control strategies like constructing border wall infrastructure, using Title 42 public health authority to expel border crossers during the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing the Migrant Protection Protocol (known as the "remain in Mexico" policy for asylum-seekers), and reestablishing Safe Third-Country Agreements with Central American countries. The resolution also directs the Clerk of the General Assembly to transmit copies of the resolution to key federal government officials, including the President, Senate and House leadership, and New Jersey's congressional delegation.
