This bill prohibits the confidentiality of settlement agreements between public bodies (such as government agencies) and other parties in Mississippi. It adds a new section to the Mississippi Public Records Act stating that the terms of any such settlement cannot be made confidential by the parties, and no court can order confidentiality or seal the court records containing the settlement terms. The bill also brings forward the existing definitions under the Act, including what constitutes a "public body" and "public records." The bill will take effect on July 1, 2024.
