This bill authorizes the Governor to include $1 million in the annual budget for the Department of Planning to provide a grant to the Maryland Humanities Council for the Marilyn Hatza Memorial Strengthening the Humanities Investment in Nonprofits for Equity (SHINE) Grantmaking Initiative. The Maryland Humanities Council must use these funds to provide general operating grants to small and mid-size humanities, arts, cultural, and educational nonprofit organizations, considering geographic and racial diversity in the grant selection process. The Council must also submit an annual report to the Department detailing the grant recipients, award amounts, and how the funds were used to create or preserve jobs, support operations, and sustain humanities programs.
