This bill enacts the "African American Cultural and Historical Grant Act," which establishes a special account in the state general fund called the African American cultural and historical grant fund. The purpose of the fund is to support capital projects at facilities in Tennessee that highlight the contributions, culture, or history of African Americans. The Tennessee Historical Commission will administer the fund, which will be composed of money appropriated by the General Assembly and other gifts and donations. The Commission can award grants to eligible entities and facilities, prioritizing projects that encourage new or renovated facilities in areas with cultural significance, enhance facilities named for significant African Americans, or restore historic facilities. Up to 5% of the funds can be used for program administration, marketing, and evaluation. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2024.
