This bill proposes to expand Medicaid eligibility in Mississippi to include individuals who are entitled to benefits under the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Specifically, the bill adds a new eligibility category for individuals under age 65 who are not pregnant, not entitled to or enrolled in Medicare, and whose income does not exceed 133% of the Federal Poverty Level. The bill also requires that these newly eligible individuals only receive the "essential health benefits" as described in the ACA. This Medicaid expansion provision is set to take effect on July 1, 2024 and stand repealed on December 31, 2026.
