Bill Summary

AN ACT to amend the public officers law, in relation to requests for employee personnel records

AI Summary

This bill requires agencies and public employers to provide written notification to an employee when a request has been approved to access the employee's personnel records under the state's freedom of information law. The employee must then be given the ability to inspect their personnel file or any other document referencing them that is part of the information request. This does not restrict an employee's existing right to inspect their personnel file under a collective bargaining agreement or other law.
