Bill Summary

This bill clarifies that agencies, entities and organizations that train and certify volunteer emergency medical technicians will be reimbursed for the cost of providing that training and certification to volunteer members of first aid and rescue squads, as well as to volunteer firefighters. Currently, any private agency, organization or entity that trains and tests members of volunteer ambulance, first aid and rescue squads seeking emergency medical technician certification or recertification may be reimbursed from the Emergency Medical Technician Training Fund. This bill provides that reimbursement will also be made when this training is provided to members of volunteer fire companies.

AI Summary

This bill expands eligibility for reimbursement from the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training Fund to include training and certification costs for volunteer firefighters, in addition to the existing coverage for volunteer ambulance, first aid, and rescue squad members. This means that organizations that train and certify individuals as EMTs will now be reimbursed for providing this training to volunteer firefighters, not just those in rescue squads. The bill also clarifies that reimbursement will cover various levels of EMT certification, including EMT-Basic (EMT-B), and that these volunteer firefighters, like their rescue squad counterparts, will not be charged fees for this training.
