This bill allows certain public high school student-athletes in grades 10-12 to substitute study hall for physical education during their athletic seasons. To be eligible, the student must be enrolled in advanced placement, dual enrollment, or other college-level courses, or need additional academic support due to low performance indicators. The student's parent or guardian, the coach, and the school counselor must provide written approval and certification for the substitution. The school district will determine which athletic activities qualify as school-sponsored sports for the purposes of this law, and the substitution will count towards the student's physical education graduation requirement. The bill will take effect for the 2024-2025 school year.
