Bill Summary
AN ACT PROVIDING UP TO THREE CONSECUTIVE WORKDAYS OF PAID BEREAVEMENT LEAVE TO STATE EMPLOYEES ON DEATH OF AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THAT PURPOSE.
AI Summary
This bill provides up to three consecutive workdays of paid bereavement leave to full-time and part-time state employees, including those in state agencies, public schools, and community colleges, upon the death of an immediate family member. The State Human Resources Commission is required to adopt rules and policies to govern the administration of this benefit, including requirements for minimum service periods and the submission of statements regarding the deceased. The paid bereavement leave is available without exhaustion of the employee's other leave and is awarded in addition to other leave authorized by state or federal law, but it has no cash value upon termination from employment and cannot be used for calculating retirement benefits. The bill also appropriates $2 million from the General Fund to the Reserve for Compensation Increases to fund the paid bereavement leave.
