This bill, the Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act, aims to extend the acute hospital care at home waiver flexibilities under Section 1866G of the Social Security Act. Specifically, it proposes to extend the expiration date of this waiver program from 2024 to 2029. Additionally, it requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct two separate studies on the Acute Hospital Care at Home initiative, one by September 30, 2024, and another by September 30, 2028. The studies will examine the quality of care, outcomes, costs, quantity and intensity of services, and compare individuals who entered the initiative directly from an emergency department versus those who came from an existing inpatient hospital stay. The bill also requires the Secretary to submit two corresponding reports on the findings of these studies.
