Bill Summary

AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to removing limits on the duration of treatment by a licensed physical therapist when a patient does not have a referral

AI Summary

This bill removes the existing limits on the duration of treatment by a licensed physical therapist when a patient does not have a referral from a physician, dentist, podiatrist, nurse practitioner, or licensed midwife. The bill requires the physical therapist to refer the patient to the appropriate licensed professional if the symptoms are contraindicated for physical therapy or outside the scope of physical therapy practice. It also requires the physical therapist to communicate with the patient's primary care provider during the course of treatment and provide written notice to the patient that the treatment may not be covered by their health care plan or insurer without a referral.
