This bill amends the education law to remove the existing limits on the duration of treatment by a licensed physical therapist when a patient does not have a referral from a physician, dentist, podiatrist, nurse practitioner, or licensed midwife. The bill requires the physical therapist to refer the patient to the appropriate licensed professional if the symptoms are contraindicated for physical therapy or outside the scope of practice. It also requires the physical therapist to provide ongoing communication with the patient's primary care or other treating physician during the course of treatment, and to inform the patient that the treatment may not be covered by their health care plan or insurer without a referral.
