This bill establishes the Office of Biotechnology Policy within the Department of Agriculture (USDA) to coordinate policies and activities related to biotechnology, biomanufacturing, synthetic biology, and other emerging technologies. The Office will be responsible for developing and coordinating USDA policies, activities, and services in areas such as research and development, communication, regulation and labeling, and commercialization. The bill also requires the Office to coordinate with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration, and other federal and state agencies to ensure interagency collaboration on biotechnology-related matters. Additionally, the bill directs the Office to consult with biotechnology developers, academics, agricultural producers, and other affected entities when carrying out its duties.
