This bill establishes the Office of Biotechnology Policy within the Department of Agriculture to coordinate policies and activities related to biotechnology, biomanufacturing, synthetic biology, and other emerging technologies. The Office will be responsible for developing and coordinating research, communication, regulation, and commercialization efforts, as well as assisting other departments in fulfilling their biotechnology-related responsibilities. The Director of the Office will also lead interagency coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, and other federal and state agencies, and consult with various stakeholders such as biotechnology developers, academics, and agricultural producers.
