This bill requires the Departments of Human Services (DHS) and Children and Families (DCF) to each create a new position of Director of Medical Services, which may be a full-time, salaried position or a contracted position, within their respective Office of Program Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) and Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit. The Directors of Medical Services will serve as advisors on complex medical issues, provide expert testimony, and review medical policies and practices at state developmental centers and other facilities to improve medical outcomes and quality of care standards. The bill appropriates $480,000, with $240,000 allocated to each department, to hire or contract with the new Director of Medical Services positions.
