This bill amends Oklahoma state law to increase the reimbursement rate that the Department of Corrections provides to counties for retaining certain inmates. Specifically, the daily reimbursement rate is raised from $27 to $32 per inmate. If a county's actual daily cost of housing an inmate exceeds this new rate, the county must notify the Department of Corrections by September 30, and the Department may either accept the county's reported cost as the new reimbursement rate or have the State Auditor and Inspector determine the appropriate rate for the next fiscal year. The bill also clarifies that the Department must reimburse counties for emergency medical care related to inmate injuries or illnesses, but only at Medicaid provider rates. An obsolete implementation clause referring to fiscal year 2019 is removed, and the bill will become effective on November 1, 2025. The changes are intended to help counties better manage the expenses associated with housing state inmates in county jails.
